Makerere University School of Public Health Profile:

Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) is one of the four Schools under the Makerere University College of Health Sciences, a constituent College of Makerere University. Established, in 1922, Makerere University is one of the oldest Universities in Africa and is currently ranked the 2nd best in research in Africa. It was the first university in East Africa to offer degrees in public health and it remains the leading School of Public Health in the region.

MakSPH conducts research and provides consultation services to the Government of Uganda and various national and international health organizations as well as bilateral and multilateral agencies involved in health.

It has four major departments of

  1. Health Policy, Planning and Management
  2. Epidemiology and Biostatistics
  3. Disease Control and Environmental Health
  4. Community Health and Behavioural Sciences.

 

 

Job Summary:

Makerere University College of Health Sciences, School of Public Health has received funding from WHO through MoH to undertake a National Harmonized SARA Study for the ‘Harmonized Health Facility Assessment’ (HHFA) in Uganda’s Health Sector-2021.
The overall goal of HHFA is to generate evidence-based data on health service delivery and quality to guide efforts for improving service delivery, policy development and practice. The specific objectives are to establish nationwide service availability and readiness levels within Uganda’s health sector to determine nationwide quality of health care and safety within Uganda’s health sector and to provide strategic information for guiding sustainable improvement in health service delivery and quality MAKSPH seeks to recruit highly experienced and competent Research Assistants (RAs) to support the implementation of the study.

 

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sampling, both purposive sampling and stratified equal probability systematic sampling techniques
  • Explaining the need for the study to the respondents and obtain their consent to take part in it; then administer questions/ interviews in-person.
  • Record accurate and thorough answers using appropriate electronic devices.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all collected data.
  • Exercised courtesy and professionalism to all respondents.
  • Keep good records of the interviews and surveys conducted.
  • Review collected data obtained from interviews/ surveys for completeness and accuracy, before submission.
  • Meet regularly with the Supervisor to turn in the survey results/ interview data on an ongoing basis.
  • Notify management incase an electronic device or other study equipment is missing or is not
  • Attend all trainings and participate in all preparatory activities prior to data collection.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications for Makerere University Jobs 2021:

  • At least a bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution with a medical background (medical doctor, pharmacy, nurse, midwife, laboratory technology)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in Qualitative and Quantitative Data Collection.
  • Prior knowledge and experience in harmonized health facility assessment (HHFA)
  • Prior knowledge and experience with Service Availability and Readiness Assessment (SARA)
  • Experience in Electronic Data Collection using software like CSpro and STATA.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision and stringent guidelines
